It feels as if Scooby Doo would not come to an end. How it start??
In the sixties of course. In the form of "Scooby Doo, Where are you?" a catchy theme song and four kids (that look more like adults)
Fred- who seemed to be the leader, although he had his share fair of trouble. He was into traps and setting them
Daphne- the love interest of Fred. Is always the 'damsel in distress' from time to time.
Velma- the genius, the girl with the glasses. In some point, people thought she was a lesbian, but I think those were rumors.
Shaggy and Scooby- the duo, the pawns, the two people that would eat food and never gain weight.
With Scooby Doo, his first voice actor was the late Don Messick.
He would go on to voice Scooby for a few years until Frank Welker took over, and he had been voicing Fred from the beginning.
Then came some of the famous Scooby Doo cartoons where there was a laugh track in between. Why? Don't know, but they had guest stars like: Don Knots, Sandy Duncan, Dick Van Dyke and Phyllis Diller
They were called- New Scooby Doo movies. It was lame, but the guest stars were still pretty good.
Another show called the Scooby Doo show was short lived, only running two years....
The Scooby doo and Scrappy doo show came after and everyone HATED Scrappy doo.
The 13 ghosts of Scooby doo only had Scooby, Daphne, Shaggy and this kid, who's name escapes me. Having Vincent Price staring as Vincent Van Gogh. They try to capture all 13 ghosts. I found it lame and useless and the big question was...where was Fred and Velma?
Then came "A pup named Scooby Doo"- Wow that was a train wreck. It was younger versions of Fred, Shaggy, Scooby, Velma and Daphne. It seemed childish to me, but for some people, it seemed watchable.
but then, around the 90's came the direct to video movies with Scooby Doo. Where they would have an hour and a half of a mystery to solve.
Starting with:
Zombie Island when they are on an island surrounded by the zombies of dead tourist that have been taken prisoner by warecats. The late Mary K. Bergan voice Daphne in this episode until her death.
They also had: Witches Ghost, Cyber Chase, Alien Invaders (scoring points for having Mark Hamill voice a villain)
And then.... Scooby doo came back yet again in....
What's new Scooby Doo. I actually did like this one. Where Simple Plan played the theme song. Somewhat of a punk rock. Same thing...finding a clue, solving it, being called meddling kids.
Then another movie of there's came out called...
Pirates ahoy- abducted by pirates on a cruise ship as they figure out where all the passengers, as well as Fred's parents vanished too. About a young man who's ship crew vanished and it seems he runs into Scooby and the gang
Another had to do with goblins, another being samuri swords (sadly Casey Kasem's last role as Shaggy)
And then came.....
The live actions.
Scooby Doo had a live action movie that sucked. Matthew Lilliard was good as Shaggy, they had Sarah Michelle and Freddie Prinz Jr.
They did a sequal as well, but it was predictable who the villain was.
Matthew Lilliard took over as Shaggy in the cartoon like:
Camp scare where Shaggy, Daphne, Scooby, Fred and Velma run a small camp which Fred has grown attach to until finding out one of the campers is really a small villain looking for treasure under the camp. (another big points for Mark Hamill voicing another villain)
Another Scooby show came that I actually thought was one of the best. It was called:
Mystery Incorporated. Yeah the designs were different, the voice acting for Velma changed (and I think is better) and it was more like a story arc. Finding out the truth about crystal cove as they fight monsters, zombies, gnomes that hate people dressed as pirates and much more.
Then another live action came where they added younger actors to portray the gang. They were fine, nothing negative about them, but I don't know by then...I kind of grew out of Scooby Doo. They were doing so many movies that go straight to DVD.
Another being at a circus surrounded with werewolves that kidnap most of the people running the circus. Soon learning that two people were involved in stealing gems.
Now, I just recently found out they are not only doing a new direct to DVD movie but a new show as well called:
GUESS WHO??? Scooby Doo. It'll be like those Scooby doo movies with bucket lodes of celebrities portraying themselves solving mysteries.
What do I think of it???? Well...we'll wait and see.
But till then, we always know Scooby Doo will never die, and will keep solving mysteries until the end of time.
