Spring Heat

Spring is here, but it feels like Summer at times. Some days, you'll end up getting windy days that make you wear a light jacket. And other days, you feel as if you want to strip naked to feel cool. Some days in spring are confusing. Somewhat like Autumn, but you would feel more a breeze, or a threat of snow around that time.

Not every day feels that way. By mid to late April, you usually would feel best to wear shorts instead of long jean pants. Other times, it'll be too hot to go on a daily walk without fainting on the sidewalk with the over accusive heat. Some days, it's cold, windy and rainy. In other days...hot, hot, hot.

Spring weather is an enigma. You never know what you get. Thinking you'll need a light jacket one day, and other days.... you feel hot. By the end of May, the spring heat starts showing up more with hotter days on the horizon.

Spring feels warmer when May is here. From hot Mother's Day to Memorial Day barbecues that are meant to happen outside. Not many rainy days in May as there are in April, but when that cold wind stops blowing, you could fee the temperature rise when you step outside.

The downside of hot spring days is that the flowers start to wilt away and leave us nothing but dead weed. Not every spring day makes that happen. Keep watering the gardens during those hot spring days, and you will be able to keep your beautiful flowers year-round.

Seasons always come and go, but Mother Nature can make the seasons pretty much crazy. Heavy storms, to hot, hot days in Spring. Even Autumn feels coldness and chills when winter is near. Seasons can confuse us with the weather we are given. So, does it mean we'll experience the heat of spring every year? Yes and no; it's all up to mother nature to give us the answer.

Philip J. Fry- truth behind a character

We all no cartoon characters don't have birthdays (well some do...but let's focus on one) Philip J. Fry. Character created by Matt Groening. The same man that created The Simpsons. So who is this simpleton, and why are we celebrating a birthday of a cartoon character that doesn't exist.

"Futurama" started to become a popular show in 1999. A young man, named Fry, was transported to the year 3000. He soon meets his only living ancestor in that year as he finds out everything has changed, and everyone he has loved has passed on. He soon befriends a robot and falls in love with a mutant.

Let's also focus on the voice actor of Fry. Billy West. Today....it is his birthday. So, it feels as if Fry is having a birthday as well. Wouldn't that mean other characters he voices on Futurama have a birthday as well? Like Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, Zapp Branigan and many more have a birthday as well? Well...I don't think so.

West wasn't even supposed to voice Zapp Branigan. That voice was going to belong to the late Phil Hartman. After he was murdered by his own wife, they changed everything. Even the name of the lead character. Philip J. Fry got his name because of the late Phil Hartman. I don't know what his name was supposed to be, but after Phil died, not only did Billy West voice Zapp, but Philip J. Fry was born.

West is known for voicing many characters, from Nickelodeon's Doug, Ren & Stimpy, Dog from Cat Dog, Shaggy, Elmer Fudd, Bugs Funny and many more. He even is the red M&M in the commercials for M&M's and still is today.

Even if it isn't Fry's birthday, we're still celebrating a great voice actor. Fry, on the other hand, is always trying to find love as a lonely delivery boy among strangers that soon become his friends. When he meets them at first, he is what others would be if they were traveled thousand years into the future would react.

Fry can be lazy, enthusiastic, even oblivious as well. He even saved the whole town from gigantic brains that were taking over the world, all because....his mind was dense. He lacks charisma but has emotion, definitely when falls in love with the mutant named Leela. He has fallen in love with other females before, but he feels Leela is the one that he loves the most.

There have been famous memes on this character such as him squinting his eyes in curiosity when he feels something isn't right. Another is when he shouts, "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" There are others as well but not as famous as those two. They are used in so many situations. Fry, to me, is someone that's trying to fit in and yet fails. Other times, I feel sorry for him, and other times...I don't know he's just a cartoon character.

But we know one thing is true, the man behind the voice of a dumb character named Fry. Let's just say...even if it isn't Fry's birthday, it is Billy West. Happy birthday to one man with many voices.

Memorable boxers ever

Sports, no matter what kind, always is known for having a great player. Whether it'd be Lebron James for basketball, Babe Ruth for baseball, or Muhammad Ali....one of the heavyweight champions ever, there's always someone that can be considered the greatest of all time. So...who are some other famous boxers that are unknown, but yet...we still remember.

Sonny Liston-  Mostly memorialized in the song "We didn't start the Fire" when he beat Floyd Patterson, Liston was known for his boxing techniques. Although he lost his title to Muhammad Ali in the 60's, Liston was considered a winning and losing boxer. He was known for his jabs in the boxing ring. Was trained by other boxers, but his life was cut short in the seventies from a heroin overdose.

Smokin' Joe Fraizer- With the heavyweight name of "Smokin' Joe", this boxer was known for his pressure fighting. Winning the Summer Olympics in the 60's (1964 actually). He became professional once he started defeating other boxers around the late 60's. In the 80's, he started to fall from grace with knockouts by others. He eventually gave up being a boxer before it got any worse and lived out his life in tv show cameos and movies. Passing away from cancer in 2011

Mike Tyson- If this name doesn't ring any bells, you haven't been remembering what he did when he bit a chunk of ear off boxer Evander Holyfield's ear. Well...let's just say, this boxer has had a downward spiral ever since. Having been to prison for rape charges, he even ended up poor after everything terrible that had happened to him. He has been trying to find himself ever since he retired from boxing. Owning over 300 pigeons and living in Arizona. Unless he's doing something that he would regret in the future, he seems to be somewhat ok

Floyd Mayweather jr.- A newbie in the boxing ring, Floyd Mayweather Jr. had 84 wins and 8 losses. He competed in the 1996 Olympics at 19 years old. Winning bronze medal for his efforts. Having boxing matches with Corrares, Castillo and others, he eventually won multiple titles and retired in 2017. Becoming one of the richest boxers of all time.

Evander Holyfield- Still having the scar on his ear since that truffle with Tyson, Evander Holyfield is a boxer known for being not only a lightweight, but also heavyweight boxer as well. fighting boxers like Larry Holmes, George Foreman, and Bert Cooper. In the 2000's he made miraculous comeback by defeating certain boxers that knocked him down.

George Foreman- Once a boxer, now a spokesman for gadgets like a grill, George Foreman was known for his heavyweight days back when he was in his teens. Getting the inspiration from an old football hero named Jim Brown. Having his heart set on football first, but went into boxing instead. He soon retired from boxing, and went to his true love, a grill that drains the fat from the meat. Today, he is still a pitchman and the George Foreman grill

Every boxer has their origin story from Ali to Sugar Ray. All they are known for is their great boxing techniques as well as their skills. Every boxer has a story. That's why most of them have featured movies that might fail in the box office, or wow critics. These are the boxers I have heard of and well... here they are now.

bunny rabbits,

are known as,

some are made of chocolate,

sweet,

Kids enjoying candy,

as a bunny rabbit,

hopping around,

giving gifts,

in a basket,

peeps,

jellybeans,

and noting but chocolate

For many,

Easter is about spending time,

with family,

and others,

remember the day,

a certain man

who saved our souls,

to live another day

traditions happen on holidays,

Easter is one of them,

Easter Egg Hunts,

Ham,

Hot cross buns

and much more

With Easter,

being moved,

an April birthday,

is bound to be on Easter,

with cake,

as dessert

Today we celebrate,

in many ways,

praying,

families,

food,

and much more

as we remember the holy day,

we also gather around,

and remember,

Easter,

and how it came to be,

Happy Easter everybody

Sugar in cereals

Never being a fan of cereals, I realize some of them are not good for you. But what cereal caries the most sugar, and what has changed since the health craze of today? Has cereal changed for the better, or the worst?

Knowing the history of these cereal products, some had to change their names and ingredients by the 90's. Sugar Crisp became Golden Crisp. Sugar Smacks....now Honey Smacks. Even some cereals, even if saying they were containing less sugar...still have sugar. But here are a few atrocities that are considered high in their sugar content.

CHEERIOS- the first finger food for infants and toddlers. I used to eat this when I was little. Now...I don't care for cereal (or the smell of oats) Times have changed. Cheerios is supposed to lower your cholesterol and be 100% heart healthy. With only two grams of sugar, Cheerios has made promises in their field of having a heart healthy breakfast. I feel, if you don't add a lot of sugar in this one...it's safe to eat, but I'll skip it.

FROSTED FLAKES- back in the 50's they had the word sugar in their names. By the end of the 80's they were just known as Kellogg's Frosted Flakes. They had many mascots, but a tiger named Tony beat them all to the punch. Their ads have kids playing a sport after eating Frosted Flakes. Tony the tiger is trying to be health conscious, I understand. However, if you just eat Frosted Flakes for breakfast without any protein or anything else but the milk, you're losing something, and maybe gaining weight in the process.

RICE KRISPES- This cereal not only has a regular version, but a chocolate one, a frosted one and much more. So I think it's safe to say...Rice Krispies does have sugar added. Four grams, but adding more to a Rice Krispies Treat recipe would make it worse. Even if those three mascots of elves are trying to get kids to listen to their cereal to hear it Snap, Crackle and Pop. I think they're trying to lure kids to an unhealthy cereal as well.

ALPHA-BITS- Remember trying to spell your name in your cereal? Alpha-bits was a breakfast known back in the 60's. Now, it's vaguely known to completely gone. Alpha-bits was full of sugar to sweeten the letters. Even adding marshmallows to the vowels A,E,I,O,U and sometimes Y. Now...it's all in the past. Was it the sugar, or the lack to value? Kids these days.... will never know.

LIFE- Remember the cereal that had the "Hey, Mikey!" ad? If so, it was Life cereal. A cereal that had multi-grains and vitamins (or so they think). Having 8 grams of sugar, and many other flavors like Chocolate, Vanilla and Cinnamon, yeah...they had sugar. They even had a commercial that showed kids not liking the cereal without even trying it. Even at the point of hiding.

HONEYCOMB- A cereal that consists of 13 grams of sugar, well...is it supposed to be healthy for kids? Back in the day, they would have ads with celebrities that would "Honeycomb big, yeah, yeah, yeah." The late Andre the giant was one of them, and I think a robot too. All we know is...Honeycomb cereal is sweet...sweet...sweet.

RAISIN BRAN- Don't care if it's a Kellogg's, Total or even Post Raisin bran. All of them have sugar. How many grams though? Roughly 17 to 26 grams of sugar. But with some brands, Kellogg's might be the most memorable for their sun character scooping 2 scoops of raisins. But...that's false advertising right there, as some people have measured how many raisins are really in their raisin bran cereal. Only 1 and a half to only one scoop. LIARS!

PEBBLES- Fruity or Cocoa, they both are sugary. Named after a character in the Flintstones series back in the sixties, both cereals were made out of rice as well as doused in sugar. Nothing but sweet sugar. So...they made other flavors that cinnamon, birthday cake, even Dino cereal. This is not what the creator of the show would have wanted, but then again....would he care? At least the brand of the Flintstones are still alive today.

Everything we eat will make us sick. From cereals doused in sugar to unprocessed meats and other foods that will us ending up in the hospital. Whatever you do...if you love cereal, that's fine, but don't forget to eat other stuff like fruits and vegetables that will help you stay healthy and be active. Characters will always be on cereals like a bird craving chocolate to a rabbit who won't get his cereal. Whatever happens, enjoy the foods you eat...in moderation.
