Like the Simpsons, SpongeBob SquarePants has been on for over 25 years. They too had a number of Guest Stars voicing characters. From Ernest Borgnine as an Elderly Superhero to David Hasselhoff portraying himself on the SpongeBob SquarePants movie. Here's a few more that might surprise you. They did for me.
Yep, you got this right. Luke Skywalker/The Joker voiced as a moth in a SpongeBob episode where SpongeBob and Patrick grab all the light they can find so it would no longer be dark. It seems the moth character is small enough SpongeBob finds a way to lure and trap him with a lighthouse. It was one time episode, and it was pretty memorable.
I mentioned Ernest Borgnine voicing an aging superhero of SpongeBob and friends. Tim Conway portrayed the sidekick. It was pretty good. His name was Barnicle Boy, and they are kind of like the Batman and Robin of the sea. Even Burt Ward and the late Adam West voiced younger versions of their superhero doppelgangers. After their death, they retired both Mermaid Man and Barnicle Boy to just being seen in the background.
Bob Barker is known for hosting the Price is Right. In the undersea world, he voiced a fish that helps SpongeBob with the clutter he gets for hoarding snails. It seems Bob has to tell SpongeBob is it best to release all but his own snail, back to where they belong.
Chris Elliott, who is known in certain TV shows and movies, voiced a pirate named Lord Poltergeist. He damned both SpongeBob and Patrick and cursed them as well. I don't remember the episode much, but there is another ghost pirate named the Flying Dutchman and is seen in more episodes, voiced by Brian Doyle-Murray.
Alton Brown was known on Food Network for his hit show. He is smart as well as great with food. He soon became a host of certain food network shows. I guess Nickelodeon wanted him to play a host of a best fancy house ever which involves Squidward's rival, Squilliam. He tells Alton's character his house is just as fancy and tries to prove it before he comes over.
In a small feature of SpongeBob WhoPants, the late Ray Liotta voices a tough fish when SpongeBob not only loses his memory but finds himself in a different town where Bubbles are outlawed. Ray Liotta voices the lead bully as they rough up SpongeBob but is defeated when SpongeBob blows bubbles in their eyes.
Marion Ross, from Happy Days, voices SpongeBob's grandmother. She was first introduced in the earlier seasons. Giving SpongeBob cookies and kisses which would end up being teased for it by Squidward and a few others.
SpongeBob eventually tries to pretend to be a grown up but doesn't care what others think. Marion Ross has still voiced SpongeBob's grandma to this day.
SNL actress Amy Poehler voiced an elderly fish when SpongeBob's snail runs away. She finds the snail and keeps it as a pet. Overfeeding him to the point that she might be trying to kill him. She isn't though.
SpongeBob eventually finds Gary and brings him back home. I don't think Amy voiced her any other time since the character has appeared, but mostly in the background.
Ian McShane, known for certain movies and tv shows, voiced a Viking on an episode where SpongeBob wanted to know what Vikings were. He and Squidward are taken to a Viking ship where Ian voices the lead Viking. Telling SpongeBob what they do for fun.
Even if it meant having him and Squidward force to clean their ship or end up walking the plank.
Another SNL actor, Andy Samberg, voices a talent agent when SpongeBob, Squidward, Mr. Krabs and Patrick try to get a band going.
It's more of an episode that has a lot of singing in it. A lot of the voice actors in the show can sing. Andy too...it doesn't work out and he bails on them at the end.
Johnny Depp voices a fish that is a surfer in an episode where SpongeBob, Patrick and a few others are stranded and need to find a way back to Bikini Bottom.
Johnny Depp voices a fish that tries to give SpongeBob, as well as Patrick, some wisdom in what to do when they are waiting for the perfect wave to send them back home. It was a pretty good episode that gives a great actor a chance to voice under the sea.
If I explained which celebrity voiced in an episode of SpongeBob, I would be typing all day. But here are some few....
Steve Buscemi....as a villain fish
John O'Hurley.... King Tritan
David Bowie... As the ruler of Atlantis
Scarlett Johannsen.... Princess of King Tritan
Sebatian Shaw......Son of King Tritan
There are over 300 guest voicing on SpongeBob. Not as much as the Simpsons, but this yellow sponge has many guest stars and if you ever wanna find a list...look on like. Half of Hollywood even was in a special called "Truth or Square"
The better question to ask is..... "Who visits the Pineapple under the sea"
