I can't believe it has been almost 20 years that we have had this sponge.
And he is still going strong!!!!
It all started in 1999 when the late Stephen Hillenberg created a world, where there is a sponge that lives in a pineapple under the sea.
How does the first episode start?
Well...SpongeBob wants a job. His whole life, wanting to be a fry cook. He starts to show Mr. Krabbs his skills; however, he isn't impressed.
Soon, a hungry school of anchovies arrive, wanting nothing but Krabby Patties. Taking over the restaurant, SpongeBob saves everyone, by using his skills to cook.
He got the job right away.
Soon came other characters like...
Plankton- a little villain that steals Krabby patties as well as try to take over the world...or something like that
Sandy- SpongeBob's best friend. Is very smart, even helps Spongebob in a jam when needed.
Larry the Lobster- a lobster that enjoys exercising, and is seen more in later seasons. Is helpful and around SpongeBob at times.
There are so many characters, and they became more popular when the movies came out. Two of them. First one had to do with Plankton finally getting the Krabby Patty formula and enslaving all of Bikini Bottom. Patrick and SpongeBob has to save everyone from Plankton.
The second one, I don't remember that well. It involved SpongeBob and the gang going into the real world after the Krabby Patty formula vanishes. All I know about this one is...why??
Now I hear they're making a third? J.C.
Recently, they had a big birthday bash for SpongeBob, celebrating his birthday, and even having the actual voice actors appear in a live action version where SpongeBob and Patrick journey to LA (the real world)
It was pretty interesting and fun. Having it happen in July. I loved it and it was pretty cool to see the voice actors in person mimicking a sponge.
They did dedicate the episode to Stephen Hillenburg, and we still miss him today.
20 years, and the Sponge is still going strong. Thanks, Stephen, for everything.
