But, which is the best??? Well, let's go through a few brands and how they got their start.
First:
Sunbeam bread- A bread that was created around the 1940's. They even had their own mascot. A young girl that is eating a bread slice covered in butter. What do I think of this bread? Never ate it. It is still is here, and have made changes, but nothing big.
Dave's Killer bread: This company started in 2005, but didn't go nationwide till 2012. This bread is considered to be healthy. Has a mascot of the creator Dave Dahl, who also runs a 'second chance' program from their workers. Still around today, and trying to make their bread healthier as they can. Never had this bread either, but....it doesn't look half bad.
For me, when I was young, there was one bread that was Honey Wheat and it was butter top as well. I've loved this bread brand, but now...
Home Pride Bread- I don't know when it started, but I know when it ended...but I would always remember having a slice, and just eating it. Toasted, untoasted, having it in a grilled cheese sandwich. Then, Home Pride Bread was no more. Around the same time Twinkies were gone, so was Home pride. But unlike Twinkies, Home Pride Bread never came back.
I would always try to search high and low, but with no success. The bread that was in the yellow wrapping with a silhouette of a woman carrying a baked loaf of bread....was gone.
Then there is:
Wonder bread- The bread that would make you big and strong, according to a few doctors. The white bread with the dots on them. Well the history of it is, they were placed on the packaging after the creator got the idea from seeing huge balloons. Wonder bread acclaims to build strong bodies and has more calcium than milk. LOL! It's still there today, but think they're trying to become more healthier than spreading lies like they did back in the fifties
King's Hawaiian- More considered a sweet bread. The company started in the 1950's but became more popular by the 80's and now, everyone is craving their sweet rolls. The commercials for them are interesting too. For people hiding it so no one can get at them. Arby's restaurant made a sandwich using the King Hawaiian roll. I find them too sweet, and I was not a fan. I've tried them, and I don't like them.
Arnold's- A bread that's known for whole grain as well as healthy foods. This bread is more whole wheat in their products as well as making them organic as well as showing that they are health conscious company. Sometimes their breads will have seeds, or raisins. Never had this, but we do have this bread in our house once in a while.
Pepperidge Farm- This company was started with bread when the creator's son had a food allergy. She created a bread that was specially made for him. It happened around 1937. The doctors loved the bread and thought that it would be grade if she had a bakery making her own bread to sell. The rest is history.
And one more bread brand I wanna talk about.
Nature's own- Starting around 1919, over 100 years ago, brought to us by the flower food company, which made other breads, Nature's own was one of the breads that started to get popular in early 90's. I actually started liking this brand of bread around the time Home Pride was gone. Now, this is my new kind of bread. Might not taste the same, but I like the taste of their honey wheat.
There are other companies like: Sara Lee, Schwibel's, Thomas' and many more, but if I told you about them all... you would not know which one to like. Even if people are trying to cut down on carbs, or are gluten free, there are some companies that are trying to help those people not lose their enjoyment from breads or pastas or anything that is full of carbs. There are carb option breads and much more. Gluten Free selections as well as being light and healthy. Bread is here to stay, and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.
