But does it really work, or does it belittle the creativity that Disney animators once had.
For me, I think it might have started back when 101 Dalmatians went from animation to live action. With Glenn Close portraying the villainous Cruela De Ville.
It was pretty good, have great actors, not bad story....then what went wrong? Was it Glenn Close's acting?
No, it was nothing, but for some reason, some fans were not pleased.
But for me, it would get worse.
Dumbo, The Jungle Book. Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and even the Lion King.
I'm not saying they're all horrible but did anyone ask for them?
The worsts would have to be:
Cinderella (2015)
Why? It's not the acting (although not great), but I feel the story was nothing like the original, but then again the Grimm's version was darker.
This is just lame. I don't know why, but I just feel as if they aren't trying hard enough and it wasn't even worth seeing. I prefer the original cartoon as well as Cinderella III: a twist through time.
Alice/Through the looking glass
First off, I thought the cartoon that Disney created was pretty amazing. Now we get a Tim Burton wash out with Johnny Depp becoming the mad hatter. I just found it to be stupid. They even made a sequel that involved a time traveler. They even had to make the actress who portrayed the evil queen's head large. NO!
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Well, I'm gonna say, weak and bunch of lame actors trying to become something they aren't. The CG is horrendous, the actors try too hard, and the film is longer than it should be. Why do they have to destroy such a beautiful story of two people falling in love, but are different from one another. First off, Paige O'Hara, the voice of Belle in the original, is %1,000 better than Emma Watson. No disrespect, but no comparison. Just awful.
Sleeping Beauty/Maleficent (2014)
Well, it's not about Sleeping Beauty, but this involves the villain, portrayed by Angelina Jolie. She's ok, She portrays a great villain, but I just never cared for Sleeping Beauty. Even in the original, it seemed the princess was so boring, and useless, they decide to focus more on the main villain. And with this movie, they give her a back story. (Then again the Grimm's fairytale of sleeping beauty was darker)
There are some good sides to them but not many:
The Jungle Book (2016)
This wasn't half bad, but it also wasn't half good either. Bill Murray does voice Baloo and there were other good voice actors too. The story does show a little more, and it feels as if it knows the story. The acting from the kid playing Mowgli, not bad. Some of the story is kind of hit and miss, but what do I think of this vs. the cartoon, they're both equally fine.
Mulan (2020)
Ok. I'm not saying anything negative about something I haven't seen. What Do I think of the previews? Decent. I think this could work. No there won't be a talking dragon, but I might give us what we want. Maybe better than Aladdin or even the original, however I do worry that it could focus more on the actress portraying Mulan, than the movie itself.
The Lion King (2019)
The plus side, it isn't horrible. Kind of like the Jungle Book feel using CGI characters, but I'm hit and miss with this. I fear that it might go too far into insanity, but deep down, it doesn't seem bad. However, I loved the original when I was little. Blessed they still have James Earl Jones voicing Mufasa. The styling of the lions, they're ok. The voice acting, also ok
What do I feel is the best one they have done? Well the one I think was one of their best:
Christopher Robin (2018)
I don't know why, but ever since I was little, I loved reading Winnie the Pooh books. And seeing this on the big screen, well, I had mixed feelings, but deep down, I knew it was going to be good. Having the voice acting talent of Jim Cummings, who had been voicing Winnie and Tigger for a long time, it just feels as if every child would fall in love with Winnie once again. Ewen McGreger did an amazing job, and believe me, this movie will bring you to tears.
With others like Aladdin or Dumbo: they're hit and miss. But some of these do you think some of these movies need to be done in live action, or do you think it's best to leave the nostalgity of Disney alone? you be the judge.
