How many wizard of oz parodies are there?

Have you ever heard the words "been done to death?" well this is one of them.

I just watched Tom and Jerry movie called Back or Return to Oz where it is based of the book by L. Frank Barum.

He if have seen how many parodies there are of his book or the 1939 classic movie staring Judy Garland, believe me, he would be rolling over in his grave so many times he would be at the center of the Earth by now.

The Tom and Jerry version is fine but I have seen countless parodies of Wizard of OZ that had been done to death in my opinion. Mad TV had their own version. Some worked, some sucked. I didn't care for a few.

They've redone the movie, made musicals, even the annoying show tv show did one. (I hate that show)

Stargate SG-1 did an episode that involved Wizard of Oz.  M&Ms made a commercial that involved the ending where Dorothy is awake in bed and the M&Ms are without color.

I think Judy Garland might be rolling in her grave with that one. During the Super Bowl (forgot the year) Fed Ex made fun the lollipop gill scene.

They also made the Wiz, but did horrible in box offices (although Michael Jackson and Dianna Ross were still amazing it didn't help)

Even comic books have done their share of pardoning in "the Marvelous land of Oz"

For me, I think prefer the original movie or live adaptations or plays.
But that's different. Seeing Wizard of Oz in a play is not considering parodying it, it's just a performance art. Seeing people playing Dorothy, The wicked Witch, Scarecrow, the Wizard of Oz. That's pretty good. But no one can replace the singing talents of Judy Garland.
"Somewhere over the rainbow" has been sung by  many people such as...
Eva Cassidy, Iz, Danielle Hope and even American Idol wannambees. But no one can ever out beat Judy Garland.

What is amazing about the Wizard of Oz is the parodies are never going to end. Neither will the plays or the stage performances. Maybe we don't want it to end. Maybe we want it to keep going, like we do with "Charlie and the Chocolate factory" "Alice in Wonderland" or even dare I say it "Home Alone" reboots.

Untouchable maybe, I don't know. But some books are made for one great movie and a thousand parodies. Just like 12 angry men, The Wizard of Oz will always be a parody that is never going to end. Till then, enjoy whatever version of Wizard of Oz you love and I will stick with the classic. Because there will always something over the rainbow to look forward to Ciao Bloggers.
