We all know that loveable cat. Doing nothing but sleeping and eating, and making smirky comments to his owner. As well as kick Odie for enjoyment. But what else is there to say about a cat that has graced our Newspaper comics since 1978?
Created on this day in 1978, Garfield was born in the kitchen of an Italian restaurant. He became accustom to loving Italian food, especially Lasagna. He was taken in by a cartoonist named Jon Arbuckle (who was modeled after the creator himself Jim Davis)
Every year on June 19th, it seems Garfield would try to avoid his birthday. A few days before hand, he would start having birthday nightmares that would come to him often. This year he stayed in bed, trying to avoid another birthday. I don't blame the cat. In real life, if a cat lived to 43, he'd be nothing but skin and bones, and even DEAD!
Garfield does love attention though, especially when it comes to food. And it's not just comics that made him a star. It was cartoon shows as well. Like I said before last year, he had a show called Garfield and Friends back in the late 80's.
I loved the cartoon, especially the voice actor they got to voice Garfield. The late Lorenzo Muzac voiced him as well as a few other characters in other cartoons. But I'll always remember him as Garfield. The cartoon was pretty funny as well as entreating.
He even gave us some tv specials as well. One for Halloween, A Christmas one as well as Thanksgiving. They were all entertaining and that orange cat was pretty interesting.
He would also have books that had most of his comic strips in them. Some are pretty funny while other times, some are more memorable. He also had chapter books. One featuring a mummy in a museum and another featuring a beast, and another with a wizard.

I remember the one with the mummy the most. I used to have that book, but it's now gone. Garfield and Odie are trapped in a museum (why they let pets in it...who knows) They find a mummy roaming around the museum, only for it to be the owner of the museum who was stealing stuff. Garfield eventually...as always for a fat cat, saves the day.
Now, they've gone 3d voice acting has changed, and the stories, they're ok, but they aren't memorable as they used to be. The show was cancelled in 2016. The show was more a miss than a hit, and he hasn't been doing much since. He is still seen today in the comic strips, and still cracks us up.
Now 43 years old, Garfield is still the same cat as we know and love. Still gives Jon a hard time as well as Odie. Eats food nonstop, and doesn't take lip from anyone. Not even a mouse. And for that, that's one interesting cat. Happy birthday, Garfield
