Well....here's the premise. This is actually based on a book written by Lois Lowry. It is about four siblings that have neglectful parents. They would do anything to get away from them, even throwing them in a coal bin. Never read the book, but I have seen the Netflix movie.
The movie is similar to the book. Having two parents that focus on nothing but themselves, and knitting. Always knitting. The oldest is born, and they named him Timothy, and Timothy wants to have a life like the Willhouby's as well as huge mustache, which his father does not have. He ends up having a younger sister named Jane who is a talented singer and twin brothers both named Barnaby who share a sweater.
The voice acting in this movie isn't actually half bad. The lead, Timothy, is voiced by Will Forte, Maya Rudolph voices a nanny that they encounter after sending their parents (both voiced by Martin Short and Jane Krakowski) on a long, long getaway that does not include children
The actress that voices Jane is a talented singer named Alieesa Cara. She even sings a really good song for the movie called "I Choose"
Ricky Gervais also voices a cat who happens to be the narrorator of the movie
What else happens? Well, the parents, who still on their cruise, decide to sell the house, and don't care what happens to their kids. To save them, the Nanny decides to leave them amessage, but Timothy takes it the wrong way, thinking the Nanny is on the parents side.
They even find a baby in a small box that Jane and thee Barnaby twins take to a candy factory. Timothy falls in love with the man, who's name is commander Melanof, mustache. Thinking that the baby would be perfect in that factory.
Later the orphanage takes all four children away after finding out that the nanny was also an orphan herself. The twins end up in one home, Jane ends up in anotehr, but Timothy keeps getting rejected by every family he has seen, he soon ends up in an orpahage.
The nanny breaks them all out as they soon learn they would have to get their parents back, but when they do, the parents reject them yet again on top of the tallest mountain in Switzerland.
When they think they lost hope, Jane starts singing a song that helps them stick together, and later are found by not only the nanny. but Commander Mealenoff. The four soon realize that they can be adopted by both of them. Timothy learns the true meaning of family.
I never read the book, and I know sometimes not every part of a movie based on a book, comes from the book, but I think this was very heartwarming, and had a true message. Even if someone you know for a long time might not understand you, you feel closer to them the older you get, (and parents in this movie are horrendous and these four stick to each other for a long time)
