Once he starts to read, it feels as if the book is coming to life and he is bringing the story to reality. There are characters in the story. One named Atrayeu and his horse Artuk who drowns in the swamp of sadness. He even has to overcome obstacles that would kill him as well but eventually Falkour is there to help guide him as well give him a peaceful advice you would read in fortune cookie.
They are on a mission to save the childlike empress who was sick, but all she really needed was to be given a name. But I'll get to that later.
He also runs into a rock biter which was a huge rock man as well.
After his horse drowns, Atrayeu is saved by another creature named Falkour. A white dragon who somewhat looks like a tampon, he saves Atrayeu and takes him to the childlike emprises.
She starts to explains as their world crumbles, it is up to Bastion to save them by giving her a name so he shouts out "MOONCHILD!" First off, you can barley hear what he's saying, but he enters the book and tells her his late mother used to call him that. And that's where it ends. Oh, but before it does, he flies back home of Falkour and chases after the bullies.
I thought this had to be one of the best of the three movies. Even if it didn't make sense when I was a kid, now I just love it. It had heart, it was amazing and even if it's about a boy with a dead mother and nowhere to go in life, he finds a huge adventure in a book! Two thumbs up.
And then we have the second one. What do I think about this one. Not as great as the first, but it's ok.
It's called "Neverending Story II: The next Chapter" It stars the late Jonathan Brandis as Bastion this time and they show his father.
Bastion is more of a wimp in this one, no offence to Jonathan Brandis in this movie. He goes into the book this time. Atrayeu is also played by another character as well as the child.
This time there was something else that was destroying the Neverending story and it was a woman named Xaydie and her wishing machine that every time Bastion made a wish he would lose a memory like a memory of his father or mother. A rock biter and Falkour are back, but the rock biter has the baby. Whatever.
His father soon realizes he is in the book and reads it. Eventually he finds out about the Silver City in the book and reconcile.
Those two were ok movies but the third, what the HELL WERE THEY THINKING?????
First off, the first movie was amazing and breathtaking. The second one was ok, maybe not worth it but ok, this one a train wreck from the beginning.
First off, his father remarries a widow, strike one. Jack Black is in this, strike two. And don't make me even bring up any pictures on why this should never be shown to any human being EVER!!!!!!
And this picture here, that's the rock biter. There's something wrong here. In the first one, the Rock biter is huge and tells Atrayeu about his hands and how huge they are, and this, he has a family and a baby. I mean I know in the second one, he had a son, and they didn't show much.
a Falkour, don't even get me started. He looks retrarted and it seemed the animatronics are just horrible and fake. Even the original voice actor left and was replaced with, I don't even want to know.
Oh strike three for having an actor who's a sh**y Bastion. I prefer the original or Jonathan Brandies over him any day. He was in Free Willy for god sake.
Well that's Neverending Story Movie's in a nutshell, but If I were you, I would stick to the book and the original movie because they were what's made the Neverending Story what it truly was. That and a song to go with it.
Till then, beware of the swamp of sadness and
MOONCHILD!!!!!
