How they differ from each other well....
From Tootsie's point of view, Dustin Hoffman disguises himself as a woman to find work while Robin Williams disguises himself as an old woman to get closer to his children after a divorce in Mrs. Doubtfire.
Dustin Hoffman can't find work when he tries his best at being a great actor but as Sydney Pollack says: "No one will hire you!" After a friend of his doesn't get a roll as a secretary in a hit soap opera, he disguises himself a woman and ironically gets the roll. He does an amazing job that he ends up falling for Jessica Lange's character and her father (portrayed by the late Charles Durning) gives her a ring.
Soon some of the characters on the show start falling for her and he gets a full contract; however, he had to be a woman. So he decides to reveal himself saying that he was really: "Edward Kimberly" and everyone freaks out. Even the girl he was going out with, and Bill Murray (who played a small roll) as the neighbor says it was a nutty hospital. Jessica Lange gets upset and he's kicked off the soap.
Elven years later came Mrs. Doubtfire. It had a different premise, however, it somewhat had the man dress as woman tale, but for a different reason.
I miss Robin Williams, everyone does. This was one of his best roles next to voicing the genie in Aladdin.
Robin plays a man named Dan who is a goofy father and he throws a wild party for his son. However; Sally Field, who plays the mother, is horrified and divorces him. She gets custody of the kids and he ends up staying is gay friends.
To top it off he lost his job as well and needs to find a way to be with his kids without his wife knowing, so he puts on the persona of Mrs. Doubtfire.
Kids fall in love with her, and so does the mother, but she in a relationship with Pierce Bronson which makes Robin a little upset, as well as finding a new job. So using the Mrs. Doubtfire character.
I liked both them equally. They were both funny, amazing and sad as well. But if I had to choose which one I liked the best, it's hard. It's like choosing a child. They have their own style, their own story. I guess Tootsie. It's a little bit funnier and it's not as depressing as Mrs. Doubtfire, but that's my opinion. They're both amazing movies about crossdressing men who had a dream and a mission.
Thanks, till then, ciao bloggers.
