Stuff on Seinfeld that wouldn't fly today

 

    Seinfeld is one hell of an amazing show back in the 90's. Now with almost everything being politically correct, or with new technology, there are some scenes from Seinfeld that were ok in the 90's that might be seen the wrong way now.

   There might be an episode that could be determined the was the cigar store Indian episode. It was about Jerry trying to get a gift for Elaine to impress one of her friends, who....is a Native American and found the gift offensive. Back in 94, this was a harmless episode. Looking back now...I guess Gen Z and late millennial generation feels this would be seen as offensive.

   Electronics weren't thriving much in the early 90's when Seinfeld started. So, most of the characters would be seen on a payphone or using a fax machine. Now a days, payphones are not used as often. They are kind of seen a relic of the past. One episode, George was waiting to get off the phone so he can get in touch with his girlfriend. He never does.

  Back in the 90's there was an episode where a journalist thinks Jerry and George are gay. They get outed by the paper and the phrase: "not that there's anything wrong with that" became popular. Homosexuality back in the 90's wasn't seen as a good or a bad. Now almost everyone is going for LGTBQ saying that being outed is their choice. I'm not gay, but I support them.

  Another episode was about breasts. Well, Jerry's girlfriend's breasts. Eliane thinks they aren't real until she touches them. Teri Hatcher portrays Sidra, Jerry's girlfriend. At the end, he finds out for himself when she says, "by the way, they're real...and they're spectacular." That line added in by Teri Hatcher. Now a days, it's not appropriate to go finding out if female breasts are real or not. Well, actually at that time, it wasn't right either, but it was all for comedy back in the 90's.

  There was another episode that seemed wrong now, unlike the 90's. Jerry has a girlfriend who inherited her late father's toy collection. He decides to drug her so he can play with her. He gets what he deserves when she finds out and dumps him. Back in the 90's it seemed just a funny episode. Looking back on it now...I don't feel Jerry should have done what he did. All for comedy I guess

   Now with a use of our cell phones (or smartphones) we can pinpoint our cars in a parking garage and find it right away. Back in the 90's....Seinfeld and his friends forget where they park their car and walk around for almost thirty minutes finding it. When they do, the car won't start, but they had to deal with strange things like Elaine on the verge losing her fish, Jerry and George getting arrested and Kramer getting an air conditioner.

 Some episodes can tick people off or become politically incorrect. One of my favorite episodes of Seinfeld was the Soup Nazi episode. Where Jerry, Kramer, George and Elaine go for soup. Jerry and Kramar get theirs...but Elaine pisses off the owner and George...well he wanted free bread. This episode inspired an actual soup store in NYC and when the owner saw it...it was NO SOUP for the Seinfeld crew.

 When Jerry was trying to get the show put together, it ends up blown in their faces when George stares down a young Denise Richards blouse who plays the daughter of an NBC executive. When George stares down too long, he says "get a good look, Costanza?" Eventually, the tables are turned when Elaine gets the executive to look at her in a revealing dress that showed cleavage. Now...it feels sort of wrong.

  One episode of Seinfeld gets a lot of heat for being horribly offensive.  It was the Puerto Rican Day parade episode. The four are stuck in traffic because of the parade. Jerry is trapped in by another car. Elaine wants to go home, and Kramer is into the festivities. However, whap irked people with this episode is what Kramer does. He accidentally burns the Puerto Rican flag and stomps on it, upsetting not only people on the show, but others watching the show as well. This episode did get banned from some networks after it was aired

   The 90's are gone, and it seems people are becoming more self-aware on what is right and what is wrong, and what has changed since the show ended in 1998. Now....some people will feel the show as nothing but a gem of 90's culture while others forgot how insensitive, morally wrong and cruel the characters could be. To me, it's a gem....and my childhood in a nutshell.

Hottest Summer Ever- Poem

 

The Sweaty heat,

we deal with,

every year,

it is hot

But is this year,

hotter than last year,

are we going to suffer,

every summer we feel a heatwave,

coming towards us?

Give me some water,

bring me to the shade,

get me away from the sun,

so I won't burn,

this summer

people swarming beaches,

to stay cool,

air conditioners turned on,

last year was unbearable,

but this year,

it felt,

like an oven,

was turned on

stay hydrated,

so you don't die,

of thirst,

or dehydrate,

in the sun

We would pray for this heat,

to come again,

when winter,

is upon us,

and we freeze,

and pray,

for warmth

Summer is not gone,

but it feels,

as if,

it is leaving us too soon,

the warm nights,

the high heat,

the swimming pools and beaches

Why does it feel,

the hottest days,

are the last days,

of summer,

when we are in school

the heat dies,

and the warmth comes in,

summer ends,

when a leaf,

falls on the ground

The heat will always be there,

as summer,

starts to fade,

in our memories,

as we wait,

for next year

we try to stay warm,

before we stay cool,

we also think,

of how this summer,

was one of the hottest,

we've ever had

The sun will soon set,

the heat will be gone,

would we be happy,

when the chill,

sets in,

memories stay,

no matter what season,

as we know,

this summer was a hot one

 We have been losing a lot of famous people this year. Anne Hache, Virginia Patton, James Caan and many more... the one that surprised many of us, was Dame Olivia Newton-John. Who was she? Do we miss her? And what legacy did she leave behind.

  She's known for many things. Her acting, her singing and even being an animal rights activist. Born around September 26th, Olivia Newton-John was born in England to a family that was considered middle-class. Around the 1970's was breakout roles. Not just in her singing but acting too.

 For some people, they would know her for her workout song called "Let's get Physical," but to others, through the movies as her character named Sandy in Grease. I never saw the movie, but it was considered a hit. John Travolta and she became the best of friends ever since.

 Besides "Let's get Physical," she was known for other hits like: 'Something better to do; Please Mr. please; Come on over' and many more. She doon had to deal with a lawsuit with MCA records. She even sang a few songs in Grease when she became Sandy. A girl from a new part of town where she had to learn to fit in

    The songs from Grease were a huge hit like: "You're the one that I want", "Hopefully devoted to you", "Summer nights", "Sandy", "Grease Lightnin'" and many more. The movie was an amazing hit, but I never even seen it once. I just know bits and pieces as well as the ending as when they fly off into the sky in a car.

  But soon, she started to have multiple health problems. Breast Cancer, Sciatica, and her bones ended up getting Stage 4 cancer which spread to most of her body. I knew through the years her health was deteriorating. It's sad to lose someone to cancer. I have lost many family members to it, and it is sad. She tried using Cannabis oil to ease the pain she was going through

  Olivia Newton John was also married and had a daughter named Chloe who was trying to follow in her mother's footsteps in acting and singing. She was by her mother's side when she was dying. Everyone poured tributes to her especially John Travolta who recently lost his wife to cancer. 

Going through cancer was hard for the family to deal with. Especially her daughter. Sadly, Olivia lost the battle on August 8th of this year. She wasn't the first actor from the Grese movie to die. A few actors from that movie died before her. Edd Byrnes and Alcie Ghostley died before her. 

  Now she's in heaven with all the other Grease actors that went before her. I'll always remember that scene in Grease where she waves goodbye to everyone as she sat next to John Travolta in that car. Then again, did the characters die in the movie? I don't know, but all I know is...we'll miss you, Sandy. I mean Dame Olivia Newton John. We hope you're smiling up in heaven no longer in pain. 

Sesame Place not the same

 

     If you remember spending your childhood at a kiddy adventure wonderland that has entertainment, rides and much more enjoyment for a young child? Well today...things have changed. The reason I bring this up was because of an incident at Sesame Place that changed the image of the park meant for young children.

  Around July a young woman brought her daughter and niece to Sesame place. They went to see the parade that goes by. A few people dress as Sesame Characters walk around high fiving and shaking people's hands. Even younger children. The Rosita Character went by but did not shake the girl's hands because.... they were black.

   I don't remember what happened. I just saw the video that was shown. The mother was not happy. She felt that her daughter and niece did not receive a handshake from a Sesame Character because of their race. She felt that Sesame Place had to do something about that. Fire the person who was in the Rosita costume and train their staff better.

  Everyone was starting to feel sorry for the family as they soon hired an attorney to help settle the lawsuit. Believing that the people that work at the Sesame Place owe them over thousands of dollars, or something of that nature.

  Sesame Place has seen been giving apology notes to the mother, but she feels that they haven't done enough to handle the situation. Soon some families came forward explaining that their child had delt with the same thing because of their race. Videos soon popped up showing their child's experience with other Sesame Characters in the parade.

   It seems Sesame Place has a lot to do to recover for their mistakes. Having to send two apologize to the family as well as trying to find a well to better their park. What I think they should do is find a way to get workers trained to show that inappropriate behavior would not be tolerated. 

  Sesame Place used to be the happiest place. But not every amusement park is considered a friendly place. Back in the 90's, people in the summertime would love to spend their money on rides and entertainment. Now, it's nothing but Facebook or Tik Tok or whatever, and technology is taking over our life.

  Ever since COVID happened, things have changed. Even amusement parks. People stopped coming in to work sometimes because they feel they would get sick. So, it's not just Sesame Place suffering, but everywhere else as well. But they are still responsible for their own workers. Even if Sesame Place isn't what it used to be, at least they're trying to better themselves.

Time for College- Poem

 

Going to different towns,

learning new trades,

to find,

your choice,

in life

harder classes,

dorm rooms,

sororities,

all part of,

the college experience,

college,

starts earlier,

as many drive

to different states,

to get,

to where they need,

to be

everything,

costs money,

to college students,

as they work a separate job,

as well as study,

it's a nonstop,

learning curve

College can be hard,

if you don't put in the effort,

and want,

what you desire,

a degree,

any degree,

to expand your mind,

get better jobs,

and feel that you,

accomplished something

with summer,

and winter break,

meaning a break,

from studies,

college,

can be rewarding

College is different,

everywhere you go,

if a team wins,

football,

or basketball,

that means,

their college,

will be more expensive

Community college,

is no different,

less money,

no sport team,

but you learn,

the same way,

as any college campus

balance your life,

your schedule,

your academics,

everything,

because it's time,

for college yet again

the bell rings,

classes start,

it rings,

it ends,

dorm or home,

your choice,

how far will you leave your family,

to be independent

create a new life style,

with one course,

and make a life of your own,

you're never too young,

or old,

for any college classes
