Many people remember eating at diners, restaurants and other chain plaices. Many of them are memorable while others are forgotten. Waffle House might be a chain now, but how memorable was the place?
First Waffle House was opened in 1955 around Labor Day created by Tom Forkner with his buddy Joe Rogers Sr. who were short order cooks back then. They created what would soon be a popular chain restaurant mostly in the South. Why is it not popular today?
Even if they are known for Waffles, Waffle House has had a reputation that hasn't been positive with others. Like Denny's or IHOP, Waffle House is known for having fights break out over cold waffles or just because somebody was hangry. But how are the Waffles? Besides all the negative press that Waffle House has been given, it seems some people enjoy the Waffles as well as omelets and other breakfast goodies.
Some people have been thrown out, arrested or even killed in a Waffle House. With all the negativity it has been given, I wonder what the original creators would think about this if they were alive. Considered a wannabe Denny's, the Waffle House is still trying to make the best breakfast, as well as lunch items for customers 24/7
With the menu on Waffle House being scarce, they have limited options but mostly is known for their Waffles. Only opened in about 25 states, the Waffle House has somehow thrived in what it does best, but yet...it is only a diner to some people.
With having a slogan with the words: "Good food fast" Waffle House tries to be another fast-food joint. It has a lunch menu as a well a children's option. But is it gluten free? Many people with food allergies aren't going to fast food restaurants or sit-down places (barely any exist). Waffle House has tried not to be at the center of attention with negative reviews, fights and even death in their restaurant.
There is another barely talked about restaurant that is only known in a few states (mostly in Georgia or Florida) They were once called "Sunshine Cafe" before changing the name to "Waffle & Steak" It was established in 1981, but not known as well as their sister diner Waffle House. Seeling mostly the same thing and adding Steak to the name apparently.
Sadly, there have been breakouts of certain diseases at the Waffle House. One incident happened in a South Carolina Waffle House when Hepatitis A broke out. An employee tested positive and yet.... hell broke loose in Goose Creek, South Carolina having the virus spread to not only the food, but the customers eating it as well.
Some positive mentions of the Waffle House mostly in movies, TV and even music videos. In the movie Tin Cup, where Kevin Costner is a golfer, he would visit the Waffle House where it's mentioned to be a low rent roadside cafe with waffles. The movie was pretty good. Waffle House is even mentioned in songs like: "Good Time" by Alan Jackson, Bloodhound Gang, Hootie and the Blowfish and many more
Even though it's not as popular as it used to be, Waffle House is still here, and making people enjoy Waffles as well as their hash browns and other fine breakfast items. I don't think I've ever even been to a Waffle House. Maybe I have, I don't know. But we all know Waffle House should be mentioned more often, and not just in music and movies.Who's Hungry?
