Famous Serial Killers

Sometimes, you end up becoming famous. But for what? A famous work of art? A song? It can be anything. Sometimes....you can end up being famous becoming a serial killer. Yeah, it's true. Dead or alive, many of these men (and some women) are considered known for their killing sprees. Forget Freddy Kruger or Jason from Friday....these are the real killers that made history for the wrong reaosn.

Dennis Rader- Known as the BTK strangler between 1970 to 1991, he was known to killing not only a family, but people had no idea he had a family. A wife (who eventually divorced) and children that he never sees. He even was a dogcatcher and ended up killing his girlfriend's dog for no reason. He had a history of issues, mental problems and today....he's happily behind bars hopefully for life. He was known binding, torturing and killing his victims. That's what the BTK stood for around Kanas and some parts of Onterio, Canada. But was mostly known for his killings in Wichita.

Ted Bundy- Everyone knew who he was. They've made tv specials as well as movies around this killer. He is no longer with us (praise the lord) but his legacy is still known today and it's not a good one. Ted Bundy was known to killing women and young girls that he had kidnapped. Were there any survivors? I don't think there were. Hundreds, maybe Thousands to women, and young girls vanished in the hands of this sick maniac. Movies had been portrayed by him with great actors convincing that they were...Ted Bundy.

John Wayne Gacy- This sicko will make you fear clowns a lot more now. John Wayne Gacy was considered the Clown serial killer to anyone that lived around Chicago. He was known for murdering men and young boys (that's gross, I know). He worked different jobs before downing the clown face makeup and going to parties to lure young boys to their doom. This clown will no longer harm anyone since he had been put on Death Row. Maybe in your nightmares.

Boston Strangler-  13 women were murdered in the Boston area around the early 1960's. Many around that specific area of Massachusetts, women mostly, were afraid to leave their homes, or be alone at night. He was mostly named the "Phantom Strangler" A man was later caught in connections to the strangler. His name was Albert DeSalvo and he confessed to tying, and I think, raping a woman in her bed. Not much evidence was brought in, but DeSalvo died in prison where he was sent for life.

William Bonin- If you were driving in the California Freeway back in the early 90's, you would have to watch out when a killer is stalking you. William Bonin was known as the "Freeway Killer" in California (mostly near the LA area) He would try to stop cars, giving them phony excuses and well...have the victim ride with him. He is long gone, and the streets of California are safe yet again.

Carroll Cole-  A Serial Killer that was known around Nevada as well as California. He was known for strangling his victims to death. He even was known murdering many women that were unidentifiable.by the state alone. He was sentence to Death Penalty and was known for murdering over 50 women that he would admit was his doing. Spending time in a mental hospital before as well.

The Zodiac Killer- The most notorious killer in all of San Francisco and Norther California (maybe even Oregon as well) Was known for threating young couples, stabbing them as well as tying their hands behind their back. Over five were killed, and maybe two survived, never wanting to relive the tragic moments they had spent witnessing their near death. A movie called "ZODIAC" came out in 2005 and talked about the killer as well as the news reports that received threats from the killer in cryptic notes that they received from him. The man has never been caught, but someone was arrested. This case ended up cold, but after the movie, it reopened and a new man, who was already dead, was fingered. But is he...the real killer?

David Berkowitz- If you ever had been to New York City around the 70's and 80's, you would have heard of this man. Known for shooting his victims in 1976, the city of New York was mostly fearing a mysterious murderer who went by 'son of Sam' Why was that name given to him?  No one knows. He started his killing sprees around 1975. He was even known for being crazy, starting arsons, hearing dogs. Many stories were told about him. The good side is... he's dead, and the killings died down when he was arrested.

There are too many serial killers to name, and it's best not to have the spotlight on them (even if they're dead) Why talk about them though? I guess it's best for the families of the victims that were slain to find out why their loved ones were killed by a psychopath.
