What is the Addam's Family? Who are they? Where did they get their start?
Well... It started around the 60's with a cooky family with:
Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Lurch a hand named Thing....
"They're Creepy, they're cooky…" they even were a cartoon. They stared on a Scooby doo movies. I don't know if the original actors voicing them, but it was ok.
John Astin (Sean Astin's father) portrayed Gomez and he actually wasn't bad. I don't remember many of the other actors, but I think some of them are dead, except for the actress who plays Wednesday and John Astin as well.
It started getting better in the early 1990's. 1991 brought Anjelica Houston to the big screen as Morticia and the late Raul Julia as Gomez. They had pretty good actors like Christina Ricci as Wednesday and Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester. I don't really remember this one, but all I know, they picked really good.
I think it had something to do with Uncle Fester and Gomez being related. but haven't seen each other in a while. I guess they have a mother.... Like I said, I don't remember it as I do the sequel because at the end....Morticia is pregnant.
In Addams Family Values, well....it was good. Surprisingly good, and sadly...we lost Raul Julia two months after it was in theaters to an illness. The movie was dedicated in his memory. They even changed a few actors. First off the actress who played the grandma was replaced from the late Judith Malina to Caroline Kane (who I like better)
There's even a pretty good story involving Uncle Fester. He falls in love with a nanny (played by Joan Cusack) who is not only looking after the children but is after....Fester. To keep Wednesday and Pugsley from knowing anything, she suggests to Morticia and Gomez to send them to a summer camp where they seemed to be tortured. However; they turn things around after finding out that their uncle could be in trouble.
There are guest stars in this movie as well. Not just Joan Cusack. Nathan Lane, David Hyde Pierce even...without knowing it Cynthia Nixon. She played the hippie Nanny.
Well, the baby ends up getting "sick" after Uncle Fester has moved in with the nanny. Making Gomez sick as well (sad that Raul was sick at the time of filming, so tragic isn't it)
The kids escape camp after they destroyed a play, and Wednesday finds love with a shy boy.
The nanny (Joan Cusack) goes crazy kidnapping all of the Addams and it is up to the baby to save them. Which the baby does.
Here are some interesting facts. The baby (although it's a boy) is play by twin female toddlers. The voice was created by the same woman who voices Anjelica Pickles.
Fester does find love at the end when their friend has a nanny of their own, who was just like him in everyway.
After wards....after Raul Julia died, they didn't make anymore Addams Family movies until...
1998 when...they had the reunion movie. I did not even see this and it looked atrocious. The cast was different, the story was different, Jesus! The only thing that was a positive in this was Tim Curry as Gomez. Even though he didn't do as great as Raul did, he did the best he could do...but I didn't even see it.
They didn't do much later because of all the negative back lash that reunion one received negative reviews and now...
almost 22 years later comes:
The cartoon movie. I don't know what say. I guess yes for the nostalgia, but no for everything else. The voice acting?? You have Charlize Theron voicing Morticia. Couldn't you just get Anjelica Houston to do it? I guess of the voice acting is not great but then again...is the movie?
There you have it, from the original to today...We see how interesting and crazy the Addams family could be interesting in some way... but to me, I'll always remember the 90's version, especially Addams Family Values.
Although it has already been almost 26 years now, to me it is the best Addams Family movie I have seen. Till then, enjoy and
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
