Actors that declined roles

Not many people knew that Dave Chapelle was offered the role of Bubba, but he turned it down, and regretted it ever since. He isn't the only actor to decline a role because they thought the movie won't work, or they were busy with another project. Here are some of the few actors, that could have been in the movie

Speaking of Forrest Gump, before Tom Hanks came around, they wanted John Travolta to play the mentally imbalanced Forrest Gump. One of the producers thought he wasn't right for the role. He was denied the role and Tom Hanks was immediately chosen. Good Choice

Leo DeCaprio, a huge star in cinema, was almost chosen to be in Brokeback Mountain. However, he had no desire in the movie. Almost no one wanted the role, until the late Heath Ledger said that he would do it, since he needed work. I wonder what it would it would of been like if Leo was making out with Jake Gyllenhaal

.

When the Matrix was coming out, they wanted Will Smith to play the lead Neo in it. However, he was too busy making the flop movie Wild West, he couldn't do it. Giving the job to Keanu Reeves instead. The movie was a huge hit, and Wild West wasn't. But don't worry, Will Smith's doing ok for now.

Christina Applegate was offered the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. But she felt the character was too similar to the one she played on Married....with children, so she turned it down. She never regrets it since the movie was pretty big hit, until the sequel came out.

Emma Stone was going to play one of the characters in the female Ghostbusters movie. However, she declined the role for scheduling difficulties. I guess, I'm not sure what the real reason was, but she did walk out on a movie that would bomb. Good Choice, Emma.

Before the movie Batman it theaters, there was going to be another Joker. Jon Lithgow was given the offer to portray the masked psycho known as Joker, but he couldn't for scheduling issues. Jack Nicolson got the role, but I wonder what it would have been like if Lithgow said yes.

Sean Connery was offered the role of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, there were two reasons he declined. One was the script was confusing and he didn't understand it. Another was that he was busy with another movie that would flop, and become his final one before retirement.

Tom Cruise would have been Edward Scissorhands if he had said yes. Instead of Johnny Depp, they wanted Cruise, but he had scheduling difficulties and couldn't take the offer. I guess, in his favor, he was happy not to say yes. The movie was still good, but not to Tom Cruise. What a baby.

Another good choice would have been keeping Matt Damon to play Harvey Dent/two face. But he had scheduling problems that was keeping him from portraying the role. They gave the role to Aaron Eckhart. He did a good job. Even Matt praised his excellence saying that having Aaron on didn't hurt the movie.

The director from "Silence of the Lambs" did not want Jodie Foster in the lead role of the movie. But he had no choice when Michelle Pfeiffer had to back out of the role. She didn't want to be in another violent role since being in Batman Return. Jodie Foster got the lead, and won herself an Oscar.

A lot of actors tried out for Jack and Rose in the massive hit Titanic. Gwyneth Paltrow was one of them. The reason she said no, she never made a reason. She explained that it didn't feel ladylike to turn down any role offered to her. But it seems Kate Winslet won the role.

When they were picking a new Bond to replace Pierce Brosnan, they thought of Hugh Jackman. He would have been a good choice, but he had to decline the role. Why? Hugh thought he wasn't the right choice to play James Bond and couldn't get in touch with anyone else. So, he declined the role for his own choices.

Harrison Ford was offered the lead role in Jurassic Park, but turned the role down. Why? There wasn't a true answer. Maybe he didn't like the script, or didn't care to work with the director, or thought the movie would flop (which didn't). The role went to somebody else. His name was Sam Neill

Johnny Depp would have been Ferris Buler in Ferris Buler's day off. He didn't want the role, why? No one knows. It could be scheduling difficulties with the movie interfering with the show 21 Jump Street, or he didn't get along with the other actors. No one knows the real reason why Johnny said no.

One more actor I want to talk about. Sarah Jessica Parker would have portrayed the daughter in the movie Beetlejuice. But it seemed, before she could say yes, Winona Ryder got the role. Maybe she did try out, but from the look of it, it seemed they already picked Winona Ryder before Sarah Jessica Parker could try out for the role.

No matter why they said no, you never knew these many actors durned down roles. Even Robin Williams was offered the role of Jack in the Shining. No joke. But you never know when a movie would turn out horrible, or when the an actor made a horrid decision.
