Yes, there will be turkey and stuffing and all the fix ins; some families will be together, and some won't. But we'll always have our memorable movies and tv specials. Here are some.
There were many episodes of Friends that involved Thanksgiving, but the most memorable one is where they all play football. The boys vs the girl which end with Ross having his nose broken and Monica can be very competitive. I think it was the same episode where Monica placed the turkey on her head, but I'm not sure. This is the Thanksgiving episode I remember the most.
My father and I love to hear this song every year called "Alice's Restaurant." A song performed by Arto Guthrie. Every year, he would talk about the same thing and it involved him being arrested as he and his friends try to get Alice's restaurant
Some movies involve people going home to a good thanksgiving meal. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is that premise. Steve Martin and the late John Candy team up in a buddy comedy which involves Steve's character trying to get home to his family, but it seems...the snow makes it difficult for him to go back to Chicago. He finds out that a friendship starts to grow when he meets John Candy. This movie's very memorable and worth the watch around Thanksgiving.
Holly Hunter plays the lead in this movie directed by Jodie Foster called Home for the Holidays. Holly plays a woman who has a streak of bad luck and goes back to her family for Thanksgiving. I don't remember much of this movie, but it is funny.
Even though Addams Family Value is more of a Halloween movie, they do throw Thanksgiving in there when Wednesday and Pugsly are sent to a summer camp. The manager of the camp creates a play that is about the first Thanksgiving. With Wednesday playing Pocahontas, she decides to add her own twist ending to escape and save her uncle from Joan Cusack
A Charlie's Brown Thanksgiving is a really good Charlie Brown movie. Not as great as "Charlie Brown Christmas." or "The Great Pumpkin" it's still memorable. Charlie Brown tries to give a feast for his friends. Mostly ending up with Popcorn and toast. Peppermint Patty isn't happy with it, but Linus tells a brilliant story that shows the true meaning of Thanksgiving which has nothing to do with the food. It is about being together. And we need togetherness more now than ever.
This special Simpson episode shows that Bart is selfish. He destroys Lisa's project that she was working on as the center peace for Thanksgiving. He runs away as the Simpsons Thanksgiving is practically ruined. Soon Bart realizes what he did was wrong and hurt his sister's feelings for doing something bad for the turkey. He's on the room as he apologizes to Lisa and well...they do have their Thanksgiving, a little differently.
Rugrats are pretty interesting as well. Having a live turkey show up and Tommy wants to save him from being eaten. I vaguely remember this episode, but all I remember is seeing the grown ups wanting to find a turkey after grandpa gets a live one by mistake. They even are fighting over football games.
The last one I'll talk about was an episode of Big Bang Theory where Howard invites his friends to Thanksgiving. Penny reveals that she was in Vegas and married her ex boyfriend by mistake in a wedding chapel. Leonard is not happy with this so Penny decides to get an annulment. Sheldon bonds with Bernadette's father by drinking beer and watching Football, as well as insulting Howard.
There are a lot of Movies and Specials to watch, but remember what Thanksgiving is really about. Not the food or the tv specials, it's about being with your family; and we need it more than ever during this difficult time. God bless you all and have a Happy Holiday season.
