Carl's obsession with trains and juice boxes was not one that George knew about, but they became great friends. I loved that episode because it brought a lot out of the Autistic side of me. I was shy when I was young and it took a long time for me to get along well with others. Now I'm a social butterfly.
Now PBS has done it again (or should I say HBO) since Sesame Street has introduced their own Muppet with autism too named Julia. Why they didn't do this when I was a kid, I don't know, but for the generations of kids today that suffer from Autism, I believe this is an amazing step Sesame Street has done.
Her name is Julia and she is quite a puppet who resembles anyone that goes through Autism, such as not knowing when to say please or thank you or even knowing you are trying to be social, when deep down, a part of your brain doesn't work right.
For me, it was hard fitting in, and I didn't know it, but my creativity blossomed with my poems and my art, and that was another sign of my Autism. So many famous people have Autism and it can be socially awkward, and a gift at the same time.
I memorize dates, birthdays, astrology signs and it's something that stays with me forever because of my Autism let alone knowing many interesting facts about certain things.
Albert Einstein. Dan Akroyed even Bob Dylan have Autism and for PBS to bring out two great fictional characters for children suffering from what I suffer through
I thank you.
