For me, being born in the 80's, lived in the 90's, the Macarena, the Slide, the Moonwalk are all dances I remember.
Some are famous dances, while some can be foregetful. One candy bar was named after a dance called "Charleston Chew"
In the 1920's- there was a dance called the Charleston where people do weird dance moves and swung their arms as they danced back and forth. It was weird at the time, but stranger dances were on the horizen.
In the 1930's- another dance was created called the Jitterbug. This kind of dance involves using mostly your legs. It was a crazy dance, but not as popular to Millenials as other dances became more popular.
In the 1940's- The Lindy Hop was born. It seemed you would do a massive workout with this move, as you use more than your legs. You use your whole body. You dance crazy as if you were in a loony bin.
These dances are over 80 to 100 years old now, but these dances, I don't remember as well as the next ones that started around the 50's and 60's
If you had seen "Grease" then you would the dance move popular in the 1950's- The Hand Jive. Using mostly your hands, you do crazy dance moves as you dance with your feet. It's an interesting dance move, yes and it got better with age in the 80's when Grease came out.
Then....came the Twist
The 1960's gave us a hit song that told us to do the "Twist" which means using your whole body and go up and down. Sung by Chubby Checker, he would encourage us to dance like crazy. I think this might have been what started dances from being banned in schools, but then again, there were others.
In the 1970's- we were told, to do the HUSTLE. Used in many discos, and in 70 movies, it seemed it was a dance craze that we use our hands as well as our feet. Every time I hear this song, it seemed we're transformed back to the 70's
In the 1980's- There was the Moonwalk. Michael Jackson gave us an interesting dance that involved walking backwards. We were amazed and astound all at the same time. He gave us a new style of dance. How it still lasts all these years was because of him. He's gone but the Moonwalk still stays.
Then came the 90's. That's when the dances started becoming...questioning. I guess it's just the way these dance styles were not as great, but they were memorable.
First came the Macarena. This dance was very motivated with so many ways to move your body. Placing your hands from your head to your waist. It was interesting and entertaining, but the men that were singing, they're still alive, and all they are known for is the Macarena.
The Electric Slide was another. An interesting way to exercise my moving your body from one side to another. This move was popular in the 90's in dance studios as well as exercise classes.
The M.C. Hammer dance was only popular with people that works well while wearing puffy pants. It was only popular in the early 1990's. It died down by 1993 and so did M.C. Hammer's career.
Ever wanted to line dance? Well if you listen to "Achy Breaky Heart" that is the dance to do. I never liked Billy Ray Cyrus, but this song was getting people to dance in a line, wear cowboy hats and dance to a song that was from a one hit wonder.
Those were the 90's songs and dance moves. But for the new millenium, we were in for a world of pain.
The Cha Cha slide was like doing the electric slide and the Cha Cha in the same order
The Lean Back dance was just leaning back while listeing to music. It felt as if you would fall down if you didn't do the dance move right
Walk it out dance style was a kind of dance that you would make up yourself and it felt as if you were just stomping on bugs as you dance
Soujia Boy made a dance in 2007 called "the Soujia boy" This dance was combining dance moves created by a one hit wonder, but Vanilla Ice did the same. But this is just one lame dance move
Dances today had nothing strange or crazy about it. But to me some dances will die out as others stay amazing. Some dances will be challenging, but these dances that we have now, it's like combining the worst and the best of dancing.
And the dance that is popular today, was created by a kid in a dancing compatition. The Floss Dance
Well, that's dancing in a nutshell, till then enjoy every dance style ever created, and be careful not get hurt.
