Was watching "Revenge of the Nerds" again. I blogged about it, but this time, I'm talking about the main villain.
We know, deep down the jocks are the antagonist, wanting nerds not to be part of the college They were the ones that burned their own house in a accident, but it their coach (portrayed by John Goodman)
I think, in my eyes, he's the real villain. Even the Dean of the university is scared to say anything to him at all. The jocks throw the nerds out of there. The Dean asks the coach if it was the right thing to do. and the coach, just stares him down.
He threatens the lead jock, making them feel unimportant, and he makes them practice constantly. Even if their jock strap is filled with itching powder, and the lead jock's girlfriend sleeps with the lead nerd.
It seems within the days the nerds try to do something to get the jocks not to be total jack asses. The nerds decided to make a pie that sells big, but for a huge reason and it's not the pie. It seemed they took naked pictures of one of the jock's girlfriends and placed it on the bottom of the pie. When they have to compete at the Greek games/homecoming, the nerds win.
Jocks are pissed, destroy the nerds house and the lead nerd, Gilbert tries to confront them only to be beaten up by the jocks and John Goodman. This time, The Dean gets his voice and tells the Jocks it would be best if the Jocks stay where they belong, in the gym.
Why do I think of the villain still being the Gym teacher? It seems it him that starts the whole controversy on telling the jocks that nerds are taking over their university, let alone him having power to make the Dean scared every time he would stare coldly at him.
This movie made John Goodman popular back in the mid 80's and every other actor said that he was a great person to work with, even if he had to play a villain.
Till them, even if it's been 33 years, every one of these guys will always be known as a nerd or a jock or the dean or an evil coach that feels that he had the authority when deep down, he never did.
Ciao Bloggers! (NERDS!)
