Ever wanted to go back to your past? Sometimes, I do, then.... you realize how lame and weird the 90's were.
Mostly with it's commercials.
Some were weird, as others were trippy. I'll explain a few and give my advice on why these commercials are a little...weird.
First...there was Bubble tape. Bubble tape is a bubble gum that was in a tape measure. I've tried it and I don't like it. But...the commercials.
It involved cut outs of people that would be your mother, or teacher, or pe coach, grandfather saying they won't try bubble tape. It was really weird. I was seven years old when this was out. I thought it was creepy to see this imagery on TV of creepy people not trying gum. It was somewhat scary
The late Randy Savage would get excited over slim jims. He would over use the letter 't' as kids were just waiting for him to appear like the Kool Aid man giving you slim jims. He was hyped up as ever as if they gave him sugar. Now a days, you don't see many of those commercials around
This commercial with fruit gushers, a candy that wasn't edible at all. After a kid would eat it, their head would change into a fruit. No kidding. That was creepy enough. Someone would be a watermelon, a raspberry, banana you name it. What creeped me out more is that well...I stopped eating fruit gushers because of these commercials
Ever had to choose between, cola, orange juice and purple stuff???? Ok this is apparently a commercial for a drink called Sunny D, or Sunny Delight. I never drank this stuff. Full of sugar, barely any juice. The commercial...I can tell they have thirsty teenagers after playing a game. They go to a fridge and all of them, they push the exact drinks in the exact same order, and I always wanted to know, what is the purple stuff, grape juice???
Some toy commercials creeped me out too. Like, Don't wake daddy when it's a game about pushing a clock, and if you wake daddy, you lose, or something like that. The commercials try to make it scary. Some would involve talking people in a card game like guess who, and others would consider using slime. I actually was afraid of the timer on the perfection game, popping up.
Ever seen those commercials that involved a mint like tic tacs, or Mentos? Well in the 90s, Mentos had these strange commercials where one person either has something bad happen to him or they are in a sticky spot. They would either sneak into a wedding, or the back stage of a concert after eating one Mentos. And how do they get rewarded for sneaking in, the person chuckles or get a thumbs up. Idiots
Capri sun had ads that were somewhat trippy ads that involved kids, like the ones in Sunny D commercials, that would transform into liquid after they drank Capri Sun. I thought it as so creepy when I was young. Now Capri sun is just gross. I've even seen web videos of parents showing people what is inside Capri Sun. Slime oozing out of it. No wonder why those kids were liquified.
A lot of commercials were kind of creepy, but I remember on commercial that gave nightmares, and I am glad they don't have it around anymore.
DURACELL batteries, back in the late nineties had these creepy ads with this robotic family. They were called the Puttermans??? They had these batteries installed on their back. What were the people in marketing thinking? it was scary, it even gave me nightmares. JC! It was just horrendous. Energizer battery sales went up because of this. They pulled these commercials by the year 2001 and well... thank god.
Some commercials were ok, and well now you know why some commercials are not meant to be seen at all.
